- Description
Our client is a local authority in Somerset, which is look for a senior Ecologist to support the Council’s Planning service by providing specialist ecological advice on planning applications. This role is focused on development management and planning application review, and so can be undertaken fully remotely.
Purpose and responsibilities:
- To provide expert ecological advice on planning applications to ensure the Council meets its statutory duties, supports sustainable development, and secures appropriate biodiversity mitigation and enhancement, including Biodiversity Net Gain
- planning applclation reviews
- legislation and compliance
- stakeholder management
Requirements:
- degree in Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
- strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
- extensive experience reviewing ecological reports in a planning context.
- experience advising on mitigation, compensation, and Biodiversity Net Gain.
- ability to manage a high-volume caseload and work independently.
- Ideally (but not essential) experience of working within a Local Planning Authority (LPA) or similar regulatory environment.
In return a pay rate of £36.45/hr (c. £70k pa) is offered, along with statutory paid leave and access to the pension scheme. This is a temporary 6 month contract. Ability to attend meetings in Somerset would be helpful but are not essential, as the role is intended to be fully remote.
